Polk Audio T15 Review
Unlike most other bookshelf speakers in this price range, these actually come with a 0.75-inch silk/polymer composite cone woofer. This woofer is made of polymer composite and is tucked in a surrounding made of rubber.
With 5.25-inch dynamic balance drivers using proprietary technology and both speakers being sonically matched for optimal performance. The result is that it delivers pretty clear sound even in low frequencies without disturbing the overall balance.
On top of having the dynamic balance woofer, each speaker also features a dynamic balance tweeter that’s made of the same material as the woofer. The tweeter also has magnets made of neodymium which is a material perfect for use in loudspeakers as it guarantees clear sound even in high frequencies.
The frequency response is between (45-24000Hz). This means that these bookshelf speakers can deal with audio in a very wide range of frequencies and that means that you don’t necessarily need a subwoofer.
Other good features to look forward to being; a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, 89db sensitivity rating and maximum power output of 150 watts which means that you can get this means you get 50 watts per speaker.
This makes the speakers pretty beefy and you can pair them with a 20-watt amplifier to even create a more unforgettable audio experience.
The other great thing is that both speakers come with the benefit of magnetic shielding. This basically means that you won’t suffer any signal interference from cables and nearby devices when using these speakers.
There is the integration of Dolby surround sound and DTS to give you a true home theater experience when watching TV and movies.
The speakers are compact and lightweight; the exact dimensions of each speaker are 6.5 by 7.3 by 10.6 inches. So you have options for placement, you keep them on the bookshelf and you can also mount them on the wall easily.
Overall these are great for listening to music, watching a movie and you can use these as solely bookshelf speakers for your computer or PC.
The fact that they are compact in size you can choose to place them anywhere you like; on shelves, desktops or wall-mount them.
They are also easy to set up; you plug them to a power source then connect them to a computer or TV, plug the adapter into the power outlet and you are going to go.
The bass port is also at the front, which is a benefit as it enables the speaker to be mounted on a wall without compromising on the bass frequencies.
The thing is that if you do wish to mount them on the wall then you need to buy the hardware to do so because it is not included in the package.
They also come with adhesive rubber pads that you can stick to whichever side of speakers you decide is the bottom and feature 5-way binding posts to suit several wiring options so you can mix and match your speaker sets.
Build and Design
Since most of the bookshelf speakers are going to be kept on display, you want to have decent looking bookshelf speakers.
The Polk Audio T15 speakers are well- constructed and build to last a long time. The speakers look really sleek and blend in nicely with modern home interior décor.
Rocking these speakers without grilles on should not be a problem in most cases. The front looks modern, visually speaking.
They are square black boxes with a mesh front panel. All black in color makes them universal since black is always fashionable and so these speakers will blend well right into your interior décor.
The housing cabinet features a glossy wood-like finish and furniture grade MDF which helps to reduce resonance and distortion. This is a fiberboard that is denser than plywood. It is beneficial for speakers because it holds the sound and directs it. It also reduces vibration.
It also features rubber driver surrounds that improves frequency response and improves durability and with magnetically shielded enclosures to eliminate any static distortion which you might get from exposure to nearby audio wires.
We can say that the design is relative to the price and if you want a better-looking one then you need to set your eyes on a high-end. The baffle is made of composite materials and actually does a decent job of keeping everything together.
Overall the speakers look average at best but are built pretty solid. They are lightweight at 8.25lbs. You also get 5 years warranty on these speakers.
This is a set of stereo speakers that deliver crystal clear sound performance with crisp highs, wide-open midranges, and surprising bass response.
They come with exclusive dynamic balance drivers and tweeter for wide response and low distortion. The composite dynamic woofer cracks the mid ranges wide open and spreads them evenly through the room.
You can easily crank up the volume to the maximum without hearing any distortion from the upper-frequency ranges.
The speakers are sonically-matched designed to work together in synergy to deliver a fully integrated stereo performance with good separation and detail.
As frontal or dialogue speakers they give great surround sound as they are fully compatible with both Dolby and DTS.
The imaging is really good and it boasts expansive and enveloping soundstage that works well with live performance as it does with studio recordings.
Trebles are pretty clear and defined which is expected from a 0.75 tweeter. In the midsections, we see plenty of girth and definition by default. However, there is low bass response and once you start digging deeper the drivers fail to keep up and start to peek.
One thing to note is that though this is a 2.0 system, it is not that powerful when it comes to bass performance, you will need to pair it up with an additional subwoofer to supplement the lower frequency ranges.
The other thing is that since they are passive speakers, you will definitely want to hook them up to an amp to get the most out of them. This is the only thing that can hamper their cost-effectiveness. If you also appreciate a plug and play you may be disappointed.
All in all, The Polk audio t15 is a great speaker for home cinema because they are perfectly capable of bringing an immersive experience on their own in a simple stereo configuration.
Due to their fairly compact size, these speakers can also work wonders as PC peripheral, delivering a high level of immersion.
What we like
What we don’t like
At the end of the day, Polk Audio T15 is still one of the best speakers in their respective price ranges.
The performance is good especially if you are using them in a smaller room.
These speakers feature a sleek MDF cabinet design that blends in nicely into modern home décor and the overall construction is sturdy and durable.
They are designed to integrate into a surround sound system and or as standalone stereo speakers on desktops or bookshelves.
The sound quality is very clear, well-defined with nice separation and a soundstage that really immerses you into the music.
These speakers are capable of delivering crisp highs, detailed midranges and tonal bass which make them enjoyable to listen to especially for instrumental and vocal performances.
If you are on the hunt for a surround sound system that provides good audio, looks sleek and is on the affordable side then you can put these on your shortlist.
